Dexamfetamine, Because dexamphetamine shares structural similarities with endogenous monoamines (noradrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin), it competes with them for absorption at monoamine transporters, which raises the amount of monoamines at the synaptic cleft (Grabowski et al., 2004). Levels III and IV retrospective studies examined the effectiveness and safety of dexamphetamine in particular amphetamine user groups. Research has indicated that the drug may yield greater overall benefits for injectors than for oral users (White, 2000); it should only be started as a last resort for pregnant amphetamine users (White et al., 2006); and it may produce results that are similar for amphetamine users on maintenance doses as for heroin users on methadone (Charnaud and Griffiths, 1998).

Administered at average daily doses of 80 mg, dexamphetamine demonstrated superiority over a placebo on secondary factors of treatment retention and decreased dependence severity in a randomized controlled study for methamphetamine dependence (Longo et al., 2010). Dexamphetamine improved desire symptoms (Galloway et al., 2011) and counseling session attendance (Shearer et al., 2001) in RCTs at lower dosages (21–60 mg daily).

Dexamphetamine Sulphate

Nevertheless, no studies found that dexamphetamine usage decreased more than a placebo (Longo et al., 2010; Galloway et al., 2011; Shearer et al., 2001). Up to 100 mg of dexamphetamine was given daily in an open-label RCT without a placebo control (Merrill et al., 2005). The study also demonstrated no advantage of the drug in lowering amphetamine consumption when compared to standard treatment.

Dexamphetamine 5mg

Take this medication with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 3 times a day. The first dose is usually taken when you wake up in the morning. If more doses are prescribed, take them as directed by your doctor, usually 4-6 hours apart. Taking this medication late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia).

If you are using the liquid form of this medication, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may adjust your dose to find the dose that is best for you. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.

During treatment, your doctor may occasionally recommend stopping the medication for a short time to see whether there are any changes in your behavior and whether the medication is still needed.

If you suddenly stop using Dexaphetamine 5mg, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as severe tiredness, sleep problems, mental/mood changes such as depression). To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. Withdrawal is more likely if you have used dextroamphetamine for a long time or in high doses. Tell your doctor or pharmacist right away if you have withdrawal.

Dexamfetamine 5mg Tablets

Though it helps many people, this medication may sometimes cause addiction. This risk may be higher if you have a substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol). Do not increase your dose, take it more often, or use it for a longer time than prescribed. Properly stop the medication when so directed.

When Dexaphetamine 5mg is used for a long time, it may not work as well. Talk with your doctor if this medication stops working well.
